Bengaluru witnessed heavy rainfall of 11.8 mm on Saturday, which was 6 mm above normal for March and marked the sixth-highest rainfall for the month in two decades. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the showers caused a noticeable drop in temperature, with the maximum temperature falling by nearly one degree to 33.4°C and the minimum temperature dipping by two degrees to 19.5°C.

The rain was accompanied by strong winds, leading to tree uprooting in several areas. The unexpected weather also caused traffic disruptions and power outages in parts of the city.

IMD Forecast: Cloudy Skies, No Further Rain Expected

Despite the heavy showers over the weekend, the IMD’s 48-hour forecast for Bengaluru predicts partly cloudy skies with no further rain. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32°C, while the minimum will likely be around 22°C.

Weather experts attribute the rain to localized atmospheric instability, which has now dissipated. As a result, residents can expect pleasant but dry weather over the next two days.

Tragic Incident: Three-Year-Old Girl Dies in Tree Collapse

The heavy rain and strong winds on Saturday night led to a tragic accident in East Bengaluru. A three-year-old girl lost her life when a tree trunk snapped and fell on the bike she was riding with her father near Devarajeevanahalli Park.

The impact of the fallen tree crushed the child, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are reviewing the structural stability of trees in the area.

Impact of Rain on Bengaluru’s Temperature and Environment

The showers brought a temporary relief from the heat, lowering both maximum and minimum temperatures. However, the rain also caused waterlogging in some low-lying areas and disrupted vehicular movement.

The BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) has deployed teams to clear fallen trees and branches, while civic officials have advised residents to avoid venturing near unstable trees during windy conditions.

Precautions for Residents Amid Cloudy Weather

Though no further rain is expected, cloudy conditions could lead to humidity and mild discomfort. Here are some precautionary tips for Bengaluru residents:

Stay updated with IMD weather alerts.

Avoid parking vehicles near old or unstable trees.

Ensure proper drainage around homes to prevent waterlogging.

Keep umbrellas or raincoats handy in case of unexpected showers.
