Kathmandu, August 23, 2024 – A devastating accident in Nepal’s Tanahun district has claimed the lives of 14 Indian tourists, with several others injured and many still missing. The tragedy occurred when a passenger bus, registered in Uttar Pradesh, plunged into the Marsyangdi River while en route to Kathmandu.
Incident Details and Rescue Operations
The accident happened on Friday when the bus, carrying 40 passengers, veered off the road and crashed into the river. Immediate rescue operations were launched by the Nepal Army, police, and the Armed Police Force. District Police Chief Mohan Thapa confirmed that 14 bodies have been retrieved from the river so far.
In addition to the recovered bodies, 16 survivors were rescued and transported to local hospitals for treatment. Efforts are ongoing to locate at least 11 individuals who remain unaccounted for. An army helicopter, in coordination with the Indian embassy in Kathmandu, was dispatched to assist in the search and rescue operations.
